A Solar Wire is referred to as a single conductor, smaller in diameter, while cable is a group of conductors within an insulation jacket.

It is extremely important to use the correct solar cable size when connecting various components of a solar energy system.
1.5 mm is most commonly used for lighting circuitry and switches. 2.5 mm is most commonly used for ring mains, plug and socket wiring with maximum rated capacity of between 14 and 20 amps.
2.5mm, 3.5mm is commonly used for behind sockets and has a maximum rated capacity of between 14 and 20 amps.
4.5 mm, 6mm is most commonly used for high power ring mains, plug and socket wiring, cookers and has a maximum rated capacity of between 14 and 25 amps.
